Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a donut pan.
In a medium sized bowl make flax egg. Add ground flax seed and water together and stir until incorporated. Set aside for five minutes to gel up.
In a separate medium sized bowl add flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt and stir until incorporated together.
Now to your bowl with the flax egg add your coconut sugar, almond milk, applesauce and vanilla and mix until well incorporated.
Add the wet mixture to the dry and use a spatula to fold the ingredients together. Only mix until incorporated, do not over mix. The batter will be thick.
You can spoon the batter into the donut pan or use a pastry bag/ziplock bag with the tip cut off to easily distribute the batter.
After all the batter is in the donut pan I like to tap my pan on the counter to make everything level. You can also use a spoon or offset spatula to do so.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden around the edges. You know they are done when you lightly touch a donut and it springs back.
While the donuts are baking make the maple glaze. In a small bowl combine powdered sugar, maple syrup and melted butter and stir until incorporated together. If you want it a bit thicker you can add more powdered sugar if you want it thinner you can add more maple syrup or butter.
Now it's time to glaze the donuts. Make sure to let the donuts cool completely before glazing them.
Once cooled you can either swirl each donuts in the glaze or use a spoon to glaze them. I like to swirl and then use my spoon to let the extra glaze drizzle down the sides of the donuts.
Enjoy!
